What is Helping Minds Online?

Helping Minds Online is an online facility providing both access to online support, an online library of articles and social media accounts. Online support is via phone, chat, text / instant message, email or video conference. It is not designed to replace your existing treatment with a registered practitioner. The online library provides access to scientific psychological findings which could apply to you and help you to better understand your behaviour. The social media accounts aim to provide awareness and positive messages regarding mental health. 

Who will be helping me?

Your online support is Jazmin Perry. I hold two Bachelor degrees. One in Psychological Science from the Melbourne Swinburne University of Technology, and one in Communication from Brisbane’s Griffith University. Plus a Bachelor of Science (Honours – Psychology). I am not a registered practitioner and am providing help and support to those in need whilst completing my educational journey.

Is Helping Minds Online right for me?

The benefits of talking through your problems with someone who cares have been well established. Helpings Minds Online provides a convenient and safe place for you to reach out and receive help from the comfort of your own home, or any other place of your choosing. You are not locked in to any contract and can stop receiving support at any time. You are welcome to start treatment again down the track if you would like.

Can Helping Minds Online substitute for traditional face-to-face therapy?

As a general comparison between online therapy and traditional face-to-face therapy, studies have shown online therapy can achieve similar results. Although Helping Minds Online is fully committed to providing you with help and support to overcome life’s battles, it may not completely substitute for either online therapy or traditional face-to-face therapy. Additionally, we are unable to provide an official diagnosis, fulfil a court order or prescribe medication.

How long should I use Helping Minds Online for?

You can use Helping Minds Online for as long as you wish. Some people may only need a few support sessions whilst others may benefit from a longer duration. It is entirely up to you. You could also work with a registered practitioner to determine the benefit of Helping Minds Online supplementing your treatment and determine the desired length. 

Do I receive reimbursement from Medicare or my health insurance?

Services provided by Helping Minds Online are not covered by Medicare or health insurance.

How much does it cost?

Helping Minds Online provides a range of services.

$50 – 1 x week (5 days) of UNLIMITED email correspondence

$40 – 1 x week (5 days) of UNLIMITED texting or instant messaging

$50 – 1 x 45 minute online chat session

$50 – 1 x 45 minute phone call session

$70 – 1 x 45 minute video conference

All prices are AUD

Does this qualify under a Mental Health Care Plan?

Services provided by Helping Minds Online are not covered under a Mental Health Care Plan. Please seek services from a registered practitioner to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan. You can obtain this from your GP. 

How does email work?

You can email at any time and share anything you would like. This could include questions, struggles, challenges, events and feelings – it is your dialogue and completely up to you what you would like to share. Email replies may include feedback, insight, guidance and/or further questions. Email replies are usually within 4 hours during 7am-7pm AEST every day of the week. However, please allow up to 24-48 hours for replies. Please ensure your email is password protected and secure to protect your privacy.

How does text / instant message work?

You can message at any time and share anything you would like. You can ask questions or write about your struggles, challenges, or feelings – it is your dialogue. We will read your texts and reply with guidance, insights and/or questions. Text replies are usually immediate or within 4 hours during 7am-7pm AEST every day of the week. However, please allow up to 24-48 hours for replies. Please ensure your phone or device is secure to protect your privacy and for confidentiality. 

How does video conference work?

You will require a webcam to have a video conference. It is a virtual face-to-face experience just like Skype or Facetime. You can book your video conference here. Video conferences go for 45 minutes. Please do your webcam from a safe place to ensure the connection is secure to protect your privacy and for confidentiality. 

How does online chat work?

Online chat occurs in an allocated time. You can book your online chat here. Sessions go for 45 minutes. The correspondence will be occurring in real-time as a one-on-one conversation via online chat for the full session duration. Please ensure your device is password protected and secure to protect your privacy and for confidentiality. 

How does phone work?

A phone call occurs in an allocated time. You can book your phone session here. Phone calls go for 45 minutes and you can speak together over the phone about anything that is concerning you. Please call from a private place to protect your privacy and for confidentiality. 

How can I be sure Helping Minds Online is going to work?

No mental health care provider can ever guarantee their service is 100% effective, nor that it is the only treatment that will work for you. The human mind is complex and individuals respond uniquely to different forms of treatment. I am also providing online support and help only. I am still completing my educational journey. For more complex problems I will not be able to provide support or help. 

Why does Helping Minds Online provide an articles section?

Helping Minds Online is committed to providing help and information that you may be able to use to create positive changes in your life. Scientific psychological findings and research are not always easily or affordably available to the general public. Some articles are also quite difficult to read and understand without prior knowledge and / or training. However, the knowledge held within the science of psychology could be quite beneficial to others if made known. Helping Minds Online is committed to being an online resource of psychological scientific knowledge to help your mind. Articles are continuously being added which contain helpful psychological tips written in an understandable way to be applied to your life and situation.

Is Helping Minds Online secure?

Everything you share is 100% confidential and professionally protected. The contents of your support service cannot be shared with anyone.

Can I stay anonymous?

Yes, of course you can. You do not need to provide your real name. Any details you submit or share are not recorded. Notes will be taken during sessions, similar to traditional therapy, but they are paper based, secure and will not include identifying information. You will need to provide details of an emergency contact person in the event that it is believed you, or others, may be in danger.
