To overcome learned helplessness, know that our th To overcome learned helplessness, know that our thoughts and behaviours are linked. Trick your mind through changing your behaviour.

For "How to" or "Step by Step Instructions:
Step 1.
Start with the Behaviour
Take small steps
Acknowledge the voice saying . "You can't!"
Bargain, "I know you think I can't but I'll just do it for 5 minutes today"

Step 2.
Repeat the Behaviour
Increase time spent by increments
Challenge yourself to do it daily
Reward yourself
Repeated behaviour will eventually become habit

Step 3.
Change your Physiology

My five mental health tips include:

Eat well. This means good fats. Just as refined sugars and saturated fats can worsen the symptoms of depression, good fats have anti-inflammatory properties that could help prevent symptoms of depression and lift your mood. Couple this with exercise and you're set

Time in sun. Sun increases serotonin and helps you stave off Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Plus sun exposure can also help people with anxiety and depression, especially in combination with other treatments.

Meditation. This can be hard to get into but the benefits are immense so stick it out and start small. Even five minutes per day is beneficial

Start a new hobby. Spending time on an activity that you enjoy can improve your mental health and wellbeing. Learning a new activity is great to challenge your mind and body too! Having a hobby is linked to lower stress, improved mood and reduced depressive symtoms.

Social connections. Truly if I had one mental health tip it would probably be this one. Focus on quality though, not quantity. A few close and good quality connections is all you need.

Yes, I am fully aware that in the last clip for 'social connections' I am ruining tip #1 of eating well. I am consuming both refined sugars and saturated fats with this donut! Did I feel sluggish and down afterwards? Yes.

I blame my sister for being a bad influence.
